About Saga Health

About Saga Health

Saga Health is a metabolic and behavioral health operating company built for the people who hold the line — first responders, air traffic controllers, and other shift-oriented, safety-critical workforces. We run a physician-supervised Whole Health Reset Program with continuous biometric monitoring, followed by indefinite continuing care, delivered on Personage — the platform we built for our own clinical work.

The company is young. The medicine, the first-responder operating experience, and the science behind it are not.

Who we are

Leadership

Tom Tauzin — Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer

Tom leads Saga's strategy, platform direction, partnerships, and grant work. A healthcare operator based in Washington, D.C. with a background in federal healthcare policy and health IT, he built Saga from inception — assembling the clinical team, shaping the Personage platform, and running the commercial and grant pipeline across Nevada, Louisiana, and Indiana.

Chief Patrick Flannelly (Ret.) — Co-founder & Chief Operating Officer

Pat is the retired Chief of the Lafayette (Indiana) Police Department, where he served 27 years — the last decade as Chief — following service in the U.S. Air Force. Under his command, the department's officer-wellness program earned recognition in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's 2023 Destination Zero National Officer Safety & Wellness Awards. With more than thirty years in law enforcement and a Chief-to-Chief network across public safety, Pat leads Saga's programs, operations, and agency relationships. He co-authored the paper "Insulin Resistance and the First Responder" (2023).

Dr. E. James "Greenie" Greenwald — Co-founder & Chief Science Officer

Greenie is the clinical authority behind Saga's protocol, with 25 years in metabolic health that began at the University of Nevada, Reno. He co-founded SpecialtyHealth, a physician-directed occupational-health and workers'-compensation clinical operation, is a founding member of LowCarbUSA, and helped establish the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners (SMHP). He owns the clinical science of the Whole Health Reset and co-authored "Mission Ready Metabolism" (2026). Clinical services run through his practice, E. James Greenwald M.D. Inc. PC.

Dr. Mark Cucuzzella — Chief Medical Officer

Mark is a professor at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and ~29-year primary-care physician and flight surgeon, and a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He built the U.S. Air Force Efficient Running Program, delivered on more than 50 military bases, sits on the board of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners, and is the author of "Run For Your Life" (Penguin Random House). A nationally recognized voice in lifestyle and metabolic medicine, he is Saga's principal clinical anchor for participant-facing care.

Dr. Jim Kubinec — Lead Data & Reimbursement Officer

A Doctor of Chiropractic and co-author of "Mission Ready Metabolism," Jim owns Saga's outcome-evaluation architecture and reimbursement-code strategy — the determination of which CMS code families apply per deployment and how clinical work is documented to be billable and audit-defensible. He authored the analytic framework behind Saga's pilot outcome reporting.

What we run

Our program

Saga's Whole Health Reset treats the biological roots of both metabolic and behavioral health. In shift-working, occupationally stressed populations, metabolic dysfunction and behavioral-health strain share the same physiology — chronic stress, disrupted sleep, and insulin resistance — so the program addresses them together rather than as separate problems. It is physician-supervised, biomarker-driven, and coach-led, pairing credentialed clinical care with continuous biometric monitoring and LP-IR insulin-resistance testing at baseline and completion, so outcomes are measured rather than assumed. After the reset, continuing care runs indefinitely for graduates who want to sustain their gains.

The approach is grounded in published science. Saga's founders authored "Mission Ready Metabolism: How First Responders Can Lead the Nation Out of the Metabolic Crisis" (2026) and the paper "Insulin Resistance and the First Responder" (2023). Over the years, Dr. Greenwald's programs have convened faculty including Gerald Reaven — the physician who defined insulin resistance — Gary Taubes, and other leaders in the field. Saga's Nevada pilot brought in guest speakers including Kevin Gilmartin, PhD, author of "Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement," and Amy Berger, MS, CNS, author of "The Alzheimer's Antidote." The NMR lipoprotein particle testing at the center of Saga's measurement traces to Dr. Greenwald's longtime colleague Dr. James Otvos, its pioneer and co-developer of the LP-IR insulin-resistance score.

We're seeking founding agency partners, founding SMHP-credentialed practitioners, and founding clinical staff. If that's you, we'd like to talk — partnerships@sagahealthcorp.com.
